June 20th: Everything Happens!

The CIHS 2026 season ramps up on Saturday, June 20, with a bang! With several bangs, actually. The Museum Exhibit Hall and Gift Shop open for the season at 10 a.m. (For more info see below on this page.) Then, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Community Hall, the Society’s Annual Meeting will convene, followed by the season’s first Ellsworth Miller Lecture, and refreshments for all.

CIHS Trustee Phil Merrill’s Miller Lecture, titled A Bridge Too Far, goes back 7 decades and chronicles the historic, 8-year-long effort by the people of Chebeague Island to empower the State of Maine to construct a bridge connecting our island to the mainland. You can help inform Phil’s talk by answering one question: Looking back, how do you feel about the fact that the Chebeague bridge was not built? Please enter your responses here.

Museum Gift Shop To Open on June 20

The CIHS exhibit and store will open on Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21! We’ll close the following week, then open Saturday, June 27 for our regular summer hours: Wednesdays through Saturdays 10-4 p.m., Sundays 1-4 p.m., Mondays 10-4; closed Tuesdays. The store will offer fun, new Chebeague apparel and other merchandise. We love the support you’ve shown us by shopping at the store, seeing the exhibit, becoming members and supporters, and volunteering. We look forward to seeing you all again this summer season!

Jane’s Walk

On May 2, Donna Damon led 33 people on Jane’s Walk 2026. We toured the Massachusetts Colony and learned about the evolution of a saltwater farm from Agriculture and Stone Slooping to a summer colony founded by folks from Mass., who built their own cottages while putting down deep Chebeague roots!
