Ellsworth Miller Memorial Lecture Series presents
Phil Merrill
Canada and the USA
The Way We Were
Monday, July 28, 2025 at 7pm, at the Island Hall
In-person only, the lecture will be recorded and posted on the CIHS website.
Those of us who grew up in the shadow of WWII remember the relationship between Canada and the USA as being similar to grandparents: functional, amiable, and taken for granted. However, the history of the affair is a Romantic Comedy, marked by mutual animosity, fighting, and bitter ultimatums. The talk will go into some detail of the way we were and briefly speculate at what the coming divorce will cost us…
A Joint Canadian/USA undertaking was the cleanup of the Great Lakes an unprecedented effort that righted a thousand wrongs and created billions in wealth for Canadians and Americans alike.
