Progress Reviewed, Elections Held at CIHS Annual Meeting
Treasurer Ted Ballard moderated the CIHS Annual Members Meeting on June 26th, which was attended by 50 loyal souls. Following Ted’s review of the Society’s activities over the past year, Eric Norcross, Jami KomLosy, Michael Porter, Evin Erder, Kate Nyhan, and Bill Danielson were elected Trustees. Subsequently, Michael Porter was elected President and Phyllis Brunner was elected Vice President.
Following the meeting, Phil Merrill gave an entertaining presentation titled A Bridge Too Far, relating Chebeaguers’ efforts in the 1950’s and 1960’s for a bridge to be built connecting Chebeague to the mainland.

“The Steamboat Is Coming!” – An Ellsworth Miller Series Lecture
On Monday, August 24, Donna Damon will trace how a growing tourism business produced steamboats and other craft that conveyed visitors to and from our island, which led to today’s ferry systems. Seven p.m. at the Community Hall. Refreshments!

We’re seeking an editor for CIHS’s journal, The “Sloop’s Log.” Published twice per year normally, the SL contains in-depth historical articles about the island’s maritime heritage, people, lifestyles, buildings, etc. The editor solicits articles and images, copy-edits text, and delivers copy to layout and print people. July Mystery Photo Revealed
Bill Putnam correctly identified the July Mystery Photo as the Cousins Island Wharf. It’s not surprising because he served as Town Councilor around that time. The work was done sometime between 1986-88. Here is what he said! “John Gibson’s rigs rebuilding Cousins Island Wharf. It could be Dave Stevens surveying the work which is possible as he was CTC President somewhere in that time frame.”
